Paid In Full

A young man was getting ready to graduate college. For
many months he had admired a beautiful sports car in a dealer's
showroom, and knowing his father could well afford it, he told
him that was all he wanted.

As Graduation Day approached, the young man awaited
signs that his father had purchased the car. Finally, on the
morning of his graduation his father called him into his private
study. His father told him how proud he was to have such a fine
son, and told him how much he loved him. He handed his son
a beautiful wrapped gift box.

Curious, but somewhat disappointed the young man
opened the box and found a lovely, leather-bound Bible. Angrily,
he raised his voice at his father and said, "With all your money you
give me a Bible?" and stormed out of the house, leaving the holy

Many years passed and the young man was very successful in
He had a beautiful home and wonderful family, but realized his
father was very old, and thought perhaps he should go to him. He
had not seen him since that graduation day. Before he could make
arrangements, he received a telegram telling him his father had
passed away, and willed all of his possessions to his son. He
needed to come home immediately and take care things.
When he arrived at his father's house, sudden sadness and
regret filled his heart.

He began to search his father's important papers and
saw the still new Bible, just as he had left it years ago. With
tears, he opened the Bible and began to turn the pages. As he
read those words, a car key dropped from an envelope
taped behind the Bible.
It had a tag with the dealer's name, the same dealer who had the
sports car he had desired. On the tag was the date of his graduation,
and the words...PAID IN FULL.

How many times do we miss God's blessings because they are not
packaged as we expected?

  1. Thanks for sharing this touching story. There were times in my life when I was angry at God but later realized that there was something He wanted to give me.

One particular incident was when a man on a bike tried to snatch my purse in front of my house. There was a tug of war (I didn't let go) and in the end I fell down and was dragged a bit. This caused a limp for the next two months.

    Why didn't God protect me?

I later realized that God allowed that to happen to show me that He was always looking after me. I found this out because:

    1. The thief never got my purse... I managed to get it and throw it over my gate.
    2. The incident happened when my father was home... So my dad could hear my screams and scare the thief away.
    3. Five minutes after the incident, my uncle and a prayer leader "coincidently" arrived at my house to pay my granny a visit.
    4. My uncle told me that he had felt God prompt him to pray especially for me a week earlier.

God does work wonders... but in His own way.

    Sorry for the long comment.

  2. Wow...I am so happy that you are alright. That is such a scary thing to happen.

Yes I agree God really works in mysterious ways. I am glad you can see the hand of God even in times of trouble.

I really enjoyed hearing about your story...There is no need to apologize about a long comment...I made this blog in hopes to share with others and for them to share their stories as well. So if you ever need to get something out...have a question...or even a story of your it...I will always love to hear it :)

  3. Wow... great story! It's so important to be open to exploring a new path, even if it's not the one we expected. I believe everything happens for a reason, and I trust that surprises are presented for a reason.
